HOD's Message,
The Department of Information Technology was established in 2001 with an intake capacity of 30, increased to 60 students in 2002 and in 2023 it is increased to 120 students.
The department boasts outstanding computing facilities, comprising eight state-of-the-art software and hardware laboratories. These labs are furnished with a total of 215 computer systems featuring cutting-edge hardware configurations and software tools. Additionally, a dedicated Language Lab has been established, equipped with essential training software to foster the development of soft skills.
The faculty members demonstrate their expertise not only through effective teaching but also by publishing papers and authoring various technical books. The department prioritizes the seamless execution of teaching-learning, and evaluation processes. During lectures, all instructors incorporate innovative ICT tools like MKCL’s LMS and LearniCo to actively engage students. To ensure comprehension of engineering concepts, teachers encourage students to respond to questions posed through LMS/LearniCo. The faculty members have invested substantial efforts in crafting challenging questions to stimulate curiosity among students.
Students from the department are placed in renowned companies such as Accenture, Capgemini, Persistent Systems, Tata Consultancy Services, L&T Infotech, Infosys, Amdocs, Dark Horse Digital Solutions, Wipro, GSLabs, ESDS, Winjit Technologies and others. Final-year students have presented their projects at several conferences, journal and project competitions like the IIC Poster and Project Competition, Indian Journal of Technical Education (IJTE), International Journal of Creative Research Thoughts, and Communication and Green Engineering (CCGE21). Two teams qualified for the Smart India Hackathon 2024, with one team attending the Grand Final Round and presenting their project titled "Development of a Versatile and Fast Algorithm for Optimal Ship Routing". Several students have secured positions in the University merit list. Ms. Mitali Bafana and Mr. Sahil Walzade (2021 batch) secured 1st position in the University merit list in the First Year Engineering. In addition to these, 14 students secured positions in the top 10 ranks in the University merit list for the First Year Engineering. Mr. Vinay Chopda (2022 batch) secured 10th position in the University merit list for the Second Year. The final-year result for the academic year 2024-25 was 98.63%, with Mr. Vinay Chopda topping the class with a CGPA of 9.60.
The 'Iteron Club' is an active student chapter within the department, dedicated to enhancing overall student development through technical events, workshops, and certificate courses like “Android App using Kotlin", "Web Development Using PHP and MYSQL" and "Python 3.4.3." The department conducts proactive workshops covering diverse subjects such as Information Security, Oracle Database, IT Project Management, C++, and Internet of Things, providing valuable platforms for skill enhancement. Industry experts from organizations like Barclays, PSPL, ESDS, Credence Core, Excise Department, EPCOS, Assam Rifles Shillong, and Dreamware Technologies actively engaged with students through seminars, workshops, and sponsored project guidance. This ensures students gain practical exposure and insights, fostering a bridge between academia and industry.
The Iteron club has been organizing a national level event technical symposium ‘ITiazza 2024’ and ‘Tech Horizon 2025’ comprising of Coding Festival, Talent show, Student of Year, CPU assembling, Paper Presentation competition, C programming, Web designing contest and technical seminars and has been receiving overwhelming response each year.
