Department of

Chemical Engineering

Director - KKW Engineering College

HOD's Message,

The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1999 with an intake capacity of 60 students. The department is accredited by NBA, and AICTE, New Delhi. It has an extremely dynamic faculty and well-experienced supporting staff having strong research interests in conventional & emerging areas of Chemical Engineering. The department believes in continuous upgradation of the knowledge of the faculty and has been sponsoring the faculty for the postgraduation and research program for the last few years.

It has nine state-of-the-art laboratories having equipment worth Rs. 76.60 Lakhs. The department has an adequate number of computers with the latest configurations and internet facilities. The department provides excellent computational facilities including professional software such as UNISIM, CHEMCAD, ZWCAD, ESPOIR SMART INTERVIEW SIMULATOR and MATLAB to the faculty and the students.

In addition to this, the department has its own library with 410 books and a chemical engineering encyclopedia. The department motivates the students to participate in various national events such as Project Exhibition, Paper Presentation, Model Making and Sports Competition. Many students have also received prizes. The department has a good track record of academic results. Students of the department secured top ranks at university examinations and achieved success in GATE, GRE & other examinations.

The students of the department have been recruited in the top national & international chemical industries, contributing an important role. The department has established a student association named ACES (Association of Chemical Engineering Students). ACES organize Seminars, Workshops, Cultural Program, and Expert Lectures on various topics like Personality Development, Preparation for Competitive Examinations, Study Abroad etc. The association provides a strong platform for the overall development of the students. A national level technical event "CHEMFEST" is also organized in March every year.

This event provides a platform for active interaction of students to bring innovative ideas in the Projects & Model Making in Chemical Engineering. The department is proactive in good industry-institute interaction. It has signed MoUs with various industries for mutual benefits. Various experts from the industry are invited and industrial visits are organized every year to bridge the gap between theory and practice. The department organizes plant training for all second & third-year students every year in various eminent industries such as BPCL, HPCL, IOCL, Reliance, RCF, Biocon etc. Most of the final-year projects get sponsorship from the industry.

Innovative Teaching Learning (ICT Supported Learning)

The ICT tools used by the faculties for the effective teaching – learning process are Power point presentation (PPT), Google classroom, learnico, YouTube, Udemy etc. All faculties use PPT for their presentation; Google meet for taking online classes; Google class for communication, for providing materials, syllabus and assignments; Learnico and Google forms for conducting quizzes and tests; and YouTube for sharing subject videos.

Faculty have developed YouTube videos for both theory and practicals. Faculty have developed and uploaded courses on Udemy and shared to students to get them benefited.

Students are motivated to register for MOOCs, SWAYAM videos. Efforts to keep the students engaged through various activities like quiz, seminars, NPTEL videos, debate on technical topics, discussion on start-ups, group discussion, career counseling, alumni interactions etc.

Simulation softwares such as AutoCAD, MATLAB, UniSIM, Computational fluid dynamics (CFD), ChemCAD and MyExamo are used for effective learning. Videos on virtual lab by various IITs for Mass transfer operation have shown.
