A meritorious student throughout his career, he passed his matric exam with Second Rank from Bombay University. He completed B.E. (Civil) from COEP, Pune. He worked for the Government department at responsible positions for the building of Dams and the development of Water Management systems. Promoted as Advisor to Prime Minister for Water Management. Chairman CWC from 1985 to 1989, Secretary Water Resources Ministry, Government of India from 1989 to 1992, Secretary General ICID. Dr. Chitale received the Stockholm Water Prize in 1993 which is World’s most prestigious prize for outstanding achievements in water-related activities. Due to his excellent oratory and knowledge of the subject, he is invited for lectures in India and abroad. Well known for his hard work, sincerity, honesty, integrity, and disciplined life.
